Alexander Zeldin
Alexander Zeldin is a writer and director for theatre and film, and co-director of A Zeldin Company (AZC).
He is best known for writing and directing The Inequalities plays: Beyond Caring (2014), LOVE (2016) and Faith, Hope and Charity (2019) - a theatrical record of our time, charting the widening divide of inequality driven by austerity politics in the UK. In 2027, following more than a decade of internationally acclaimed touring, he will direct new productions of these groundbreaking plays, performed together as a trilogy for the first time. The Inequalities will have its world premiere at Almeida Theatre in spring 2027, ahead of touring, and audiences will be able to watch all three plays in a day for the full experience of this epic theatrical event. The Inequalities is an AZC and Almeida Theatre co-production, in association with Internationaal Theater Amsterdam, Royal Shakespeare Company, Athens Epidaurus Festival and Compagnie A Zeldin, supported by Arts Council England.
Alexander Zeldin’s stage credits as writer and director also include Une Mort Dans La Famille (2022, Odéon-Théâtre de l'Europe in Paris and international tour); The Confessions (2023, Vienna Festwochen, National Theatre and international tour); The Other Place (2024, National Theatre, New York’s The Shed, and international tour); and CARE (2026, Young Vic).
Screen credits include the feature adaptation of LOVE for BBC Two, executive produced by Zeldin’s long-standing supporter, David Schwimmer, in a collaboration between BBCFilms, BBC Arts, Arts Council England, Cuba Pictures and the National Theatre.
Awards and recognition include seven Drama Desk Award nominations for LOVE following its run at New York’s Park Avenue Armory in 2023. The following year, in 2024, Alexander Zeldin was Artist-in-Focus at Schaubühne’s Festival of International New Drama (FIND), and was made a Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres by the French Minister of Culture.
Alexander Zeldin is co-director of A Zeldin Company (AZC) with producer, Faye Merralls. Founded in 2019, AZC produces his stage work and tours it internationally, and in 2022, he founded Compagnie A Zeldin (CAZ) in France.
